19. Naagpur - water
This shrine is a rectangular pit, built using residual stone pillars, in front of the Amoghasiddhi Buddha niche, which lies in the northern side of Swoyambhu Mahachaitya’s dome. Locals call it as ‘Basingaah’ also. It reressent the water spirit. This shrine is built by Guru Shantikaracharya as a residence for the Varuna, King of the Serpents, to eliminated disturbances and obstacles arising from the water. It believes that, if people worships this shrine, then there will be plenty of rain for a timely harvest and will eliminate the four types of faulty rain, namely no rain, scant rain, torrential rain and destructive rain.
